The starting movie was about five or ten minutes. Amazingly long considering we're talking one disc here! I played this three and a half hours straight earlier from the start and I have to say I am very impressed thus far. The setting is interesting, and so are the characters although it will be interesting to see just how much depth there is to their personalities. The the way the combat works shows vast improvements on past formulas, and it is very enjoyable. In past games, there was usually a sigh of annoyance when going into a random battle. But now it's a pleasure to run up to monsters which you can see from a great distance in an attempt to destroy them. Or simply run around them if you wish. The characters so far are particularly well spoken and articulate, which I am very happy about. There seems to be a huge amount of choice of how to set up your party and I am still getting to grips with these aspects of the game. It's all very good fun. We'll see how much I am enjoying it after a bit more time spent playing. I am definately optimistic. So far, FFXII rocks.

Well I would really like to try it out, but there is only one problem. I doubt I will have the time, nor the patience to start another FF game.
Playing 7 for as long as I did, was just something that keeps daunting on me... FF games are brilliant don't get me wrong, its just... LONG!

It certainly does require quite a few hours free in a day, but it's still great fun so far! 10 hours in now. But I have to play it on a smaller television now, so not quite as keen. Such epic games really need a huge screen to make the most of them!

Few hours free in a day? the final boss can take hours to do! Although I loved the depth of the story line and the lore involved I think 12 was great, just once you got your characters set up, it didn't feel like you playing, it felt like you playing a strategy game rather then a RPG. My opinion.

Haha, that final boss fight did take quite a while I know, was pretty crazy. For some reason the scenes leading up to it really reminded me of Star Wars. But I won't say why due to spoilers. I know the fighting system wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but I really enjoyed the uniqueness of it and felt it sped things up a fair bit in a good way. Random battles in Final Fantasy can be quite annoying, especially when you're keen to get somewhere which is often the case, but in this game if you come across a weak enemy, you can take them out in a couple of seconds without having to wait for the battle screen to load, that is a huge bonus I think.
I agree on the story line, I really liked a lot of the characters as well, some of the more interesting ones in Final Fantasy for me. I really hope they decide to do a HD remake once they have finished with the FFX games. I'd love to replay this, and maybe take on a few more of the hidden bosses.

Totally agreed the random battles are a pain in the arse, and I know some people do enjoy them, but I think that is why I like FFXI because of that fact, "I will level up when I want too" sort of gameplay.
I do think that FFXII is probably the most under-rated FF game of all, X seems to get a lot of attention with the HD remake, I rather have XII then X to be honest

I was always a sucker for the Ivalice setting! and was a huge FF Tactics player back in the day so I was made up when they made a main title set in that world. I enjoyed this game from what I played of it (although I never got round to finishing it.) But did anyone notice how a lot of the plot was lifted from Star Wars? Also British voice acting!! not cheesy Americans for a change! (well for the most part) and Patrick Stewart doing the narrating fantastic!! Lets hope if the HD remaster of X and X-2 are successful that XII will get the same treatment

I didn't know Patrick Stewart did the television advertisements for it, that's a nice touch. Yes, the voice acting was excellent, I'd love to play this again in HD, fingers crossed Square decide to go through with it.
