Hey guys, so I had a broken PS2, but then I fixed it again.
Basically I have the Slimline PS2, and the disc's wouldn't load on my console, so I thought I go and buy a second hand one, that hopefully will work, well I am never buying from that place again (gamestation)
as they obviously don't fully test all their pre-owned consoles.
The 2nd Controller Port didn't work properly, and the first memory card port had a pin missing, it was ok for PS2 mem cards, but not PS1
Not that it played PS1 games anyway, so I thought I will see what was wrong with my original perfectly working PS2 (albiet the disc not loading)
I found out due to wear and tear the sensor switch that detects when the disc drive was closed had snapped loose, so after playing around with a small peice of floppy disc IDE cable, I found the right jumper setting to override it, alas I soldered it onto the console and now my games will boot up!
However I found out that all I had to do is override 2 more parts and I have soft-modded my PS2 for "Hot Swapping" PS1 games, which is great as some of my PS1 games are badly scratched, and playing a copy version of them would be great.
I then found out about this "Swap Magic" disc for the PS2, again I have some bad quality PS2 games (second hand) that jutter all over the place - including FFXII!) I couldn't play Final Fantasy 12, because the disc just was so badly used, but now, thanks to my soft mod, I can easily play these games.
Of course it will allow you to play any burned PS1 or PS2 games, and as discussions of ROMS and ISOS is forbidden on this site, I won't go into that detail, only I done mine for perfectly legitamate reasons.
My PS2 is alive again!
