I watched this video of the opening scene and the first mission in the starting town of Ul'Dah and remembered all the good things of the first version of the game, yeah it had a lot of bad things too, like massive PC requirements, boring landscapes and just not enough content (until the last days)
The end of an era
And now, we have FFXIV:ARR

Any chance they might do some sort of sale on the subscription for this at some stage? 12 months for the price of 6 for example would help bring in a lot of new members who aren't sure about committing.

Don't know, I know this one has a 3 teir subscription option. I think its 8.99 per month for starters (1 character on one server) 12.99 per month for I think 8 characters, or the pay quaterly (not sure if this one is available)
There is no contract though, so if you don't like it, or just can't afford it then don't pay, your character data will still exist on servers and be where you left off.
Of course you get first month free anyway. Square haven't done any pay in advance schemes in this country.

Haha, where did you find that out? Also on a side note, that Platinum Trophy won't be obtainable until after the first patch. (when the content will be added)
Also, really seems easy, that list. FFXI was more hardcore
"get warrior uoto level 75" 5g
Then again, back when we played XI, it would have taken over a Month to a few, to get a clss upto lvl 75, now you could go from lvl 1 to 99 in a few days!

I was going to say, they don't generally look difficult, just a lot of grinding, or do you think you would acquire most of them through natural play without even trying? I can't imagine someone creating items of every type a thousand times purposely, but then every MMO plays differently. Shame there's not one for winning PvP matches but I guess they want winning to be its own reward.

I think they planned ahead with the PvP, because FFXI had PvP and it failed hard and no one does it anymore so maybe they thought the same might happen?
and for an example: "Silver - One with Wood - Synthesize 1,000 items as a carpenter." Yes, you would be doing this if you want to level up as a carpenter, I think a lot of these you will get just by playing the game, but you might have to go a little further for the trophy.
