GENS is probably the best MegaDrive emulator as with the right BIOS files it can play Mega CD and 32X games from all over the world! which is really cool. Especially that I have only managed to find the US version of Sonic CD (that game kicked butt!) I know Duke has the original UK version but I don't know if he be willing to lend me a copy

Gens is not only the best, but probably the most well known emulator for the MD, you say you got the 32X emulated too?
I loved Virtua Racing on the Mega Drive but for some reason GENS doesn't emulate it at all! But I know Virtua Racing Deluxe should work as that is the 32X version.
Duke has the original Sonic CD? what other games does he "Actually" own. I have 2 Mega CD games, Sega Arcade Collection (limited edition 5-in-1) and Road Avenger.

that is about half the collection terry, there are over 100 games for the Mega CD, I can't believe how many games he has got though.
I know duke loves his retro consoles, and I know now, after talking to dukie baby, that he actually has a 32X console! along with Virtua Racing Deluxe, he also said that he is on his way to get the 32X Version of the extremly rare: Night Trap.
It is hard enough to find that for Mega CD, but for Mega CD 32X it is amazing!
Lucky git!

I loved Virtua Racing on the Mega Drive but for some reason GENS doesn't emulate it at all! But I know Virtua Racing Deluxe should work as that is the 32X version. You wanna know why GENS can't emulate the Mega Drive version of Virtua Racing? Well here it is anyway: As you know GENS is a full Mega Drive emulation software, which means while running GENS (as it is with no additional BIOS files or even with!) when you load a Mega Drive ROM file into the emulator that is just slapping a cart into a Mega Drive console. So when gens plays the rom it emulates the game as close to the original as possible based on the chipsets and language the mega drive runs in. Sonic The Hedgehog is a typical game that will work in most emulators. But Virtua Racing will not. Why? Because the Mega Drive as standard can not produce 5.000 Polygons Per Second, it can probably do about 500 but not 5.000. Now the actual Virtua Racing cartridge actually has its own Processor inside of it, to help the mega drive produce those graphics we all love! When people Dump the ROM, it doesn't DUMP the Processor, instead they will have to make a emulator that runs inside the ROM that is compatible with all the different emulators. Which is: 1. Pointless to do as only one game uses this processor 2. can't really happen as different emulators are written in different languages. Now the reason why the 32X version works. Is simply because the 32X Exansion module has 2 32-BIT Processors that can handle 50.000 Texture Mapped Polygons per second (and using the MD processor too) so it doesn't need the extra CPU inside the cart, which is also one of the main reasons why it has 2 extra tracks and cars! If you can get your emulator working then I say play it! or even better, play it on the actual 32X console! Sorry for the long explination, also if I seemed to go off, it was becuase I got the TV going on in the background distracting me. LOL ;D

Nicley put, I thought it had something to do with the Sega Virtua Processor (which is the name of the processor inside of the cart)
But it is a shame, I heard somewhere if you put the mega drive version of Virtua Racing into a 32X then it will improve the graphics and the overall playability, I just wanna know if it is true, as I know Duke has a 32X and Virtua Racing.

I wouldn't think it does, coz the 32X only works as a 32X when it sees a 32X game, it is like the PS2, it plays PS games but the same as they will be played on a PS, maybe with faster loading times.
But then again, it could have been made like that.

Trust me when I say.
The Mega Drive version of Virtua Racing does NOT work at all on the 32X Console, wether or not this was intentional so fans of the game had to buy the "Deluxe" version I have no idea.
To be honest I think it is because of a clash of processors.
The MegaDrive 16-BIT CPU The MegaDrive 32X Twin 32-BIT CPU The Virtua Racing SVP Chip
Probably causes a problem somewhere either way it doesn't work, and if you have a 32X I suggest you get Virtua Racing Deluxe, it kicks butt.

Wow!
I thought the 32X was compatible with all Mega Drive games, but going by what you said I suppoed that one game probably just can't run.
Also what happens when you stick a 32X Cartridge into a standard megadrive socket?
Thought I would ask, coz I never owned a 32X (although I did want one)

32X Game carts are a few milimeters longer than the megadrive cart, no really it is about 2mm on each side (if that!) so the cart doesn't fit into the MD cart slot.
I just persume that it will come up with a load of bollox as the megadrive doesn't know how to read 32BIT data.

I would like to add that Sonic & Knuckles works in the 32X but as soon as you add another game ontop of that, it doesn't want to know...
Just thought I would give this board some action again.

So, one of the greatest Mega Drive games doesn't work through the 32X? that sucks.
I played Sonic CD on GENS last night, I can never get past the boss on Tidal Tempest...

Tidal Tempest? hmmmm... thats the one where you are following Robotnik down the maze and then finally hit him for the last time underwater with all the air bubbles right? Don't know why I am asking that as I know for a fact that it is. LOL That boss is easy, get the invicability then just bounce on his head.
the race on Stardust speedway is the hardest, it takes me several tries to do that one. Have you actually managed to complete it yet, with all the time stones? To be honest I think the ending when you complete it without the timestones is better but still.
