FINAL FANTASY XIV: A REALM REBORN PROLOGUE: HOPE IN THE ASHES A cold wind blew cross the battle field and a thick mist moved amongst the broken corpses and tattered banners that lay on the scorched ground. It cut through Elimari like a knife, bloodied and bruised he pulled his cloak closer around himself as he looked out across the devastated landscape. A new age had come to Eorzea and everything he once knew had changed. That which they all feared had come to pass and now he had to face the reality of his situation. For the first time in the Elezen’s life he felt truly alone, isolated and without hope. His revere was interrupted as his sensitive Elezen ears picked up a familiar sound in the distance. Despite the howl of the wind he recognised the dull thud of the foot falls immediately. “Chocobo’s”, he said, “and by the sound of it, two of them”. Maybe they are wild, he thought. How they had survived this catastrophe he did not know. The same luck that spared my own life, he pondered. Maybe he could use one to get back to Ul’dah to see if his home had met the same fate as this once green landscape in which he now found himself. Then out of the mist he saw them moving towards him at great speed, both with riders. The silhouettes of the riders in the mist seemed almost ghostly, emerging from the murky grey back drop. As they got closer he could see the great ebon feathered birds were heavily loaded with packs and weapons. The riders both wore hooded cloaks pulled up over their faces, heading straight for him like avatars of death from an old religious myth. Elimari tightened his grip on his lance and took a deep breath and thought... Maybe I did die after all? Heh, well if death has come for me this day I will not go down without a fight! The cloaked riders were almost upon him now. From what he could tell by their size and shape they were both Hyur, not Formor Wraiths come to take him on his final journey to the afterlife. The lead rider was clearly a Highlander and the second was a smaller Midlander, by the looks of it a Female. Elimari kept his guard up as the riders came to a stop in front of him and the lead Chocobo reared up and gave a loud “skwark” over the howling winds. Elimari stepped back into a combat stance and held his Lance out in front of him. The Highlander’s cloak was tattered and battle worn and pearl white in colour. It was held on by a clasp bearing a heraldic symbol of two griffins holding spears. The symbol seemed familiar to the Elezen but he wasn’t sure why or where he had seen it before. The Woman wore a similar clasp on her ragged violet cloak but it bore the symbol of a Wyvern wrapped intricately around a lance, but even at this distance he still could not make out the riders faces. The Highlander held out his hand and dropped a small leather coin pouch onto the blackened ground in front of the Lancers feet. It sounded like a sack of marbles as it hit the earth and as Elimari looked down, jet black pearls the colour of dark crystals rolled out and scattered all around his feet. The Woman in the violet cloak nodded towards the pouch, a golden lock of hair hanging down from her dark hood. Then the Highlander turned his armour clad hand around and offered it to the lone Elezen who still had a tight grip on his lance ready to strike. In a Calming but stern voice, familiar to Elimari as if he had heard it many times before in a dream or a past life, he said...... “Hail! Elimari Cromdel! Come brother, time is short and we have much work to do....Odin’s true sons must ride again!” To be continued in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn 2013...

After hearing the voice, Elimari grabbed the pouch of pearls, and as he done so, flashbacks of crimson robes, and the whitest, of white feathers came flooding into the Elezen's head. Warcry's screamed through his memory, memories of this strong figure, clad in white armour keeping hoards of beasts at bay.
Elimari, clutched his Polearm, reached behind to his leather pocket, and pulled out a whistle, and gently blew, the sound could not be heard, but over the hills came a Giant creature, stomping towards them, The Midlander reached for his sword, at that time Eli raised his hand and nodded to the man.
He then jumped up, and grabbed two reins around the beast.
"It gets me from A to B" the elezen chuckled, "Onward... to victory brother?"

BTW Eli... I could really do with your help, trying to farm Kindred Seals for my next limit break solo, is a pain in the arse, could do with some RDM/WHM or SAM/DNC help

I never played Final Fantasy XI, then again I haven't really enjoyed a proper RPG since FF7, but I signed up for the Beta for this one, now I have no idea what the original version was like, but I think this one is a bit... unfinished in a lot of places. Now before I get the sarcastic remarks that it is still in Beta, I am fully aware of this, but the game still doesn't seem to be right for me.

I won't be joining straight away, there is still too much in FF XI I have yet to see and do!
I think.. it would be a lot better with a kickass Red Mage and a brutal Paladin but.. hey what can you do?

We need to start getting our **** together Eli I have Been doing my homework! I have sent you a freinds request in PSN but said summit bout your privacy settings so it didn't send! Pip keep fighting the good fight bro mine and Viks time is over in Vana'diel and I am happy with what we achived there and if that can still carry on in some small way through you and Cass then the legacy will live on but all my efforts are focused on pastures new! But if and when you decide to make the switch there is always a home for you brother with the sons.
Eli we need to start sorting out our plans brother I'm abit Pissed about the class defining your starting nation thing but then again I'm not shure how diffrent the nation quest lines are as I will be starting as gladiator working to paladin and vik will be starting lancer working to dragoon so I will start in ul'dah while she's off in gridania!!

Haha, weird about the privacy crap on PSN (think I might have turned of random requests) - this has been changed now anyway. I am lancing it up too (to keep true to original character), and yeah the "starting city" thing sucks, but nations are a little different in ARR so not to worry, the main story line is the same no matter what, it is down to which "Grand company" you sign up for, the starting city crap was originally just a test stage, that allows people to rush their advancements and what not, but sucks either way, there are ways around this though, it is just a pain in the royal elezen ****! It means trying to run to a different nation by foot after choosing your city, to sign up to the guild you want. To be honest though, I swear I saw in the beta test forums, that the starting city is limited to job class for the test stages, and may not be in the final? I might be wrong, it will make sense as guilds are more used in ARR. Gridinia is a sexy city, pretty much know all of that area like back of my hand, (all test stages started there regardless of race / job), would prefer Ul'dah because I liked the story elements on that city, especially the quest to gain access to the Inn's and the inspector guy glitched out so bad his body was a mess! Hey ho, we will see what the final brings in good time!

YAY! Grimnir! I think.. it would be a lot better with a kickass Red Mage and a brutal Paladin but.. hey what can you do? Sod the Red Mage, we need Eli got get his freak on with Samurai / Dancer! I have "seen" some of the gameplay for ARR and it does look sexy, problem is my PS3 is like 190Miles away! and there is no way my laptop can handle it, will be playing before the end of the year though

That's the best thing about XIV no DNC!!!! That character looks amazing Eli! The true Elimari!! And Cass next time your home get your PS3 and get a copy think it is going to be a digital download off the PSN too so you won't even need to go out to buy it! Would be great to have everyone from early on have a proper team from the start!
I'm just holding my breath and hoping they fleshed out the Highlander character creation a wee bit (more whopping beards!!) so you can have a true representation of Grimnir not the dude with a soul patch from ffxi
